Inner Light is a lighting design studio based in Brooklyn, founded by Kip Davis. The studio works across nightlife, festivals, performance art, and brand installations — building immersive environments for underground dance culture, institutions, and commercial clients.
“Kip Davis, the lighting designer, bouncing colored strobes off the vaporous air itself, refractions zagging.”
— McKenzie Wark, Raving (Duke University Press, 2023)
Inner Light has provided creative direction for Sustain-Release since the festival’s founding year in 2014, designing The Grove and Bossa Lounge stages from the ground up each September. The studio was lead lighting designer for UNTER across nearly the party’s entire eight-year run — warehouse raves profiled by SPIN as “36-Hour Party People.” Permanent installations anchor Nowadays in Ridgewood and Basement at Knockdown Center.
Other work includes The Shed’s inaugural Open Call (Yulan Grant’s Buss Demon Choat — a Queer|Art|Prize finalist), the first two major installations for Wire Festival at Knockdown Center, and activations for Nike x Ambush, Valentino Pink PP at HBX, Spotify, and Reebok.
